At the Belfast Community Co-op, we are also part of a larger cooperative, National Co+op Grocers (NCG). This network supports and empowers the grocery co-op sector, connecting hundreds of co-ops across the U.S.⁠
⁠
In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation, NCG committed to matching up to $100,000 in donations from its member co-ops and brands. Thanks to the generosity of our incredible community, we were able to contribute to this fund, which has already provided grants to co-ops in North Carolina working to recover from the floods. NCG raised a total of $201,914.13, which will continue to support ongoing disaster recovery efforts.⁠

It's National Blood Donor Month! Co-op Principle #7 is Concern for Community. We believe that when we work together, we can accomplish great things. This month, we are encouraging everyone who is able, to donate blood to help our community! Some of our workers have already donated or have pledged to do so this month! To find a local blood drive, visit the American Red Cross website. The @waldocounty_y often hosts blood drives in Belfast!⁠

- The average red blood cell transfusion is approximately 3 units.⁠
- A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 units of blood.⁠
- Blood and platelets cannot be manufactured; they can only come from volunteer donors.⁠

@AtlanticSeaFarms is a sustainable aquaculture company that specializes in seaweed farming, primarily focusing on cultivating kelp in the waters off the coast of Maine. ⁠
