Everyone Welcome to Join the Co-op!

The Belfast Community Co-op is celebrating local food, community ownership, and our 48th birthday this September! Joining our Co-op requires an investment, called equity. Your investment in the Belfast Community Co-op means supporting local farmers, fostering sustainable practices, and strengthening our vibrant community.

When joining, each Co-op owner agrees to invest equity in the business. Equity is the individual $200 investment in the Belfast Community Co-op that transforms you from a shopper to an owner and entitles you to the rights and responsibilities of ownership: including shopping incentives, voting privileges, discounts, and participation. The amount of equity the Co-op holds signifies our financial stability and ability to reinvest in the business or leverage borrowing.

Co-ops are mission-driven rather than profit-driven: the Belfast Community Co-op is committed to benefitting its owners. As an owner, you own and operate this enterprise with others in your community. Shopping at the Co-op puts money back into the business and community, pooling resources to boost the local economy. Co-ops are a radical economic movement!

A Record-Breaking Donation!

We are incredibly proud to announce that this month's Common Cents donation to the @coastalrecoverycommunity (CRCC) totaled an amazing $6,666.76—the highest so far this year and the 5th highest in our program’s history!

When Erin Hustus, CRCC President, and Bethany Johnson, CRCC Office Manager, came to pick up the check, they were tearful with joy, deeply moved by the community’s generosity. This donation will go a long way in supporting their critical work in helping individuals on their recovery journey.

Thank you to everyone who rounded up their purchases and contributed to this impactful cause. Together, we make a stronger, more compassionate community!

Belfast Community Co-op's Common Cents is a powerful vehicle for change: Our community raised $72,006.14 for 12 local groups in 2023!

Nominations for 2025 groups are due by September 30, 2024. Community non-profits can apply to be a candidate for our round-up at the register program called Common Cents. Voting will be in late October by Co-op Owners.

We’re thrilled to announce that our updated kitc

We’re thrilled to announce that our updated kitchen is open, and we’re developing tantalizing new options, like pizza! For the time being, we’re serving a fixed menu of hot & cold pre-made items: made fresh daily with real ingredients, by our dedicated kitchen team. Ambrosia & Corban are showing off our take and bake pizzas and hot slices for lunch!

What else is going on in the kitchen?
Our Prepared Foods Manager Catherine Shyka and her team have been working hard developing a robust menu of fresh and delicious dishes. She is using her decades of experience to build the systems necessary to keep the kitchen running smoothly through our anticipated growth.

As we settle into our new space, we appreciate your patience while we fine-tune our operations and get to know our shiny new kitchen. This is just the beginning—keep checking in with us, as we plan to add and expand our offerings over the coming weeks and months.

We aim to regain our status as a popular destination for both lunch and dinner in town, where both locals and visiting families can enjoy hot or cold, delicious meals in our cafe, on the outdoor patio, or take them to the park for a picnic.

We’re delighted to share this new chapter with you and look forward to seeing you soon!

The Belfast Community Co-op’s Common Cents group

The Belfast Community Co-op’s Common Cents group for September is @waldocountyhumanesociety ! Every shopper may ‘round-up’ their purchases at the Co-op to donate to our monthly recipient. 100% of all donations received through Common Cents go to each month’s group.

What is Waldo County Humane Society?
The Waldo County Humane Society was founded in 1895 to protect children and animals. In 1998, the Humane Society closed their shelter due to funding constraints and the Board immediately voted to offer programs to the Waldo County residents. The first program to be started was the spay/neuter assistance program. The Waldo County Humane Society is a 501c3 organization. Their programs have expanded over the years to include financial assistance, free rabies vaccination clinics, Senior Spectrum food assistance, and a scholarship program. All of their programs are open to anyone who lives in Waldo County.
