The grand re-opening of our newly renovated store — June 21, 2024

Happy First Anniversary to Our New Store!

It was one year ago this week that we opened our doors to you once more—not as the old Co-op and not as the Co-op under construction, but as our reimagined Belfast Community Co-op. Our “Welcome Back!” event was the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice: in the store and in the board room, in the offices of architects and lenders, meeting with allies in our local community and across the country, all working to bring to life a dream of a better co-op. Better able to grow with the community. Better able to meet the changing needs of our neighbors. Better able to weather the storm.

What a year it has been! I could not have imagined how different things would be: socially, economically, culturally. The world shifted around us in ways none of us anticipated, testing businesses and communities everywhere. Yet we have not merely survived—we have grown stronger.

We are not the same community co-op we were a year ago, certainly not the same co-op we were before we started down this path to renovation. We are stronger operators, better attuned to the needs and wants of our customers, more efficient and more conscientious. We have learned to listen more carefully and respond more thoughtfully to our community.

Thank you to everyone who came together last June to celebrate our co-op—your enthusiasm launched us into this new chapter with incredible momentum. Thank you to everyone who has come through our doors in the past year to help us settle into the new store. Your patience, your feedback, and your continued support have been invaluable. Thank you to the countless individuals who played a role in helping us achieve great things this year, from our dedicated workers to our Board of Directors to our local vendors and partners. And thank you, our friends and neighbors, for allowing us the opportunity to continue to serve you.
