We’re thrilled to share that the Belfast Community Co-op is now a proud Retail Partner of the Northeast Organic Family Farm Partnership (NOFFP)! This collaboration reflects our dedication to supporting local family farmers and investing in the vibrancy of our community.

Through this partnership, we’ve committed to sourcing at least one-quarter of our dairy products from brands, processors, and farms that support family farmers who are NOFFP Brand Partners.

About Northeast Organic Family Farm Partnership (NOFFP)

The NOFFP was established to address a significant challenge that shook the organic farming community in 2021. That year, 89 organic dairy farms across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York were informed that their contracts with Horizon Organic were being terminated. Shortly after, another 46 farms faced the same fate with Maple Hill Creamery. For many of these generational farms, the loss of these contracts threatened their survival.

Stonyfield co-founder Gary Hirshberg came up with an idea for a region-wide partnership linking consumers, large and small dairy processors, retailers, restaurants, school lunch programs, college cafeterias, and our region’s hardworking organic family farmers. This idea to bring consumers, retail and institutional customers, into a partnership with local organic family farms would mean a stable, long-term relationship that would help these 135 farms.
