What is Belfast Public Health Nursing Association?

Belfast Public Health Nursing Association provides direct services and concrete support to meet the basic needs of vulnerable individuals and families facing poverty, hunger, homelessness, housing insecurity, illness, addiction, aging, disability, domestic violence, and rural isolation. Each working day, the Belfast Public Health Nurse travels to meet people where they are living or seeking help. The Belfast Public Health Nurse can be found visiting our community members in need at motels, parking lots, unheated trailers and tents, The Belfast Soup Kitchen, elder and disabled housing facilities, food pantries, schools, Head Start center, police stations, and even backyards where patients are living in a van.

A Cornerstone of the Belfast Public Health Nurse is treating everyone with dignity and respect by honoring the wishes of the patients and their families. The BPHN leverages many resources to assist low-income community members in meeting basic needs of food, shelter, health, and safety where no other support exists, or in urgent situations until other supports and resources can be secured. The Belfast Public Health Nurse operates with a “Boots on the ground” mentality to aid our most vulnerable community members with their basic needs.

In addition to supporting our vulnerable population, BPHNA promotes and strengthens the health and wellness of all the residents of Waldo County through health promotion, and the direct delivery of disease prevention, health education, early intervention, and emergency services to community members in need. BPHNA plays a key role in providing a safety net of medical services and needed support to community members whose needs would not otherwise be met. BPHNA provides information and education to community members and partner organizations to help build knowledge and skills to better address the root causes of ill health and poverty throughout Waldo County.
