The Belfast Co-op’s Common Cents group for May is WERU! Every shopper may ‘round-up’ their purchases at the Co-op to donate to our monthly recipient. 100% of all donations received through Common Cents go on to each month’s group.

What is WERU?

WERU Community Radio is an independent, noncommercial, educational media organization serving Midcoast and Downeast Maine. We engage with the local community to provide diverse music, public affairs, cultural content, and perspectives that entertain, connect, inform, and inspire.

Voice of many voices.

Diversity is an essential aspect of WERU, with music ranging from folk to jazz to rock to Zydeco, and nearly everything in between. Public affairs include topics having to do with the coastal economy, civic life, health, sustainable energy, Wabanaki sovereignty, the future of Maine, and more.

Listener support and volunteer power are also extremely important to the success of WERU.

Well over half of our revenue comes from audience donations and over 100 people volunteer “on the air” and Internet, with many others serving on committees, staffing our outreach booth, working in the music library, and doing other important activities. WERU Community is grateful for the community that has kept it going strong since 1988.

We are similarly grateful to Belfast Co-op patrons who round-up for WERU. Thank you!
